As the Seraph
sighs
"... The
seraph falls from the inner-firmament, touching earthly soil for the
very first time. His fall symbolizes a sudden state of enlightenment.
There he lies in the crowd, no one notices him and for the first time
ever he discovers a certain feeling of loneliness. When the fall reaches
his awareness the unfortunate angel is overwhelmed by a flood of emotions.
He gathers all the strength within his capabillity, but it's no use...
he falls prey. His consciousness is pure and clear, so is his task...
finding balance within this quandary, creating insights and separate
all by forming definitions of 'positive' and 'negative'. Is he able
to bear this load and withstand another fall? For this moment he yearns
for the pleasant sleep of soulless excistence of an ordinary angel,
yet he can not avoid the inner turmoil. For the last time he casts his
eyes to the sky, takes a deep breath and remembers the ones he had to
leave behind. Then he no longer feels his wings and discovers the presence
of an actual soul. The only way back is facing the confrontation. The
seraph sighs..."
The Name
Seraphique a word, a name, maybe both. In search of an explanation for
it, we go back to the foundation of the word, based on the word 'seraph'.
A seraph is a six-winged angel that guards the throne of god, a member
of the Highest Order of Angels. The word 'angel' does not refer to the
religious being, but in Seraphique it is used for it's symbolic meaning,
undefined abstraction and irriligious and spiritual references. In the
Hebrew-language the word 'seraph' means 'serpent'.
When you continue the explanation
of Seraphique you can result in a few different angles. You can approach
Seraphique as a term... a term to indicate spiritually controlled and
uncontrolled art. Art in sound, vision and motion at the same time.
Influenced by the conscious as well as the unconscious. ( A reference
to Seraphique performing live.)
A little less obvious is
that Seraphique can be seen as a city, a nation maybe... but defenitely
an isolated place in a bigger whole. A place where harmony is created
in the negative and the positive. A harmony that strong that it is the
foundation of a wealthy and quiet society. A harmony able to bear it
all and forever.
Whatever the result of your
explanation may be, there is a correspondence, one thing is more clearly
or vaguely present: a balance in contradictions, balance indeed. That
is where Seraphique as a band stands for: The search for balance. But
continuously one element dominates the other element(s), a dominating
element that's constantly changing and one time is more recognizable
than the other time. The search for balance, that is present somewhere,
but probably never will be found-
Hidden References
In the
underlying meaning behind the name Seraphique in regard of the music,
the word 'angel' refers to beauty, vulnerability and purity on one side
and to unreliability, rebellion and other 'negative' aspects on the
other side (Angels and fallen angels). The 'serpent' reflects strenght,
wisdom and other, mostly 'negative' things. Beauty reflects itself in
the music as melodies, harmonies and moods that are, in our beliefs,
of the beautiful kind. This is a more direct reference. On the other
hand unreliabilty is exposed as complexity and unexpected turns and
rebellion comes out as the will to differ, which are less obvious references.
In illustration of this: these references don't necessarily stand for
'negative' and 'positive' or 'good' and 'evil'. There these are general
opinions, subjects of hard localisation, that can be filled in differently
by any other individual. So one can catagorize the elements differently
from another. As well as the band consists of individuals that present
themselves as an unity.
Poetry and the Music
Poetry
The lyrics are written
with a poetic approach. On first sight they may seem floaty, but when
you look a little further you'll see that they're level-headed. They
deal with different ways of thinking, different states of being and
the processing of emotions. They are in no way an attempt to escape
from reality, nor they describe unprovable phenomena. We think that
the highest good that man can achieve is self-unfolding and that's the
pivot in our lyrics.
Music
We try to give an indication
of Seraphique musical direction, by mentioning the musical backgrounds
of the musicians involved in the band. These backgrounds vary from Classical,
New Wave, Jazz, Blues, Rock to different sorts of Metal, combined with
fresh ideas, technical structures, intensity, feeling... melted in an
artistic approach.
The Source and the Engine
Seraphique is driven by passion, inspiration and the ambition to create
the difference. Man tends to behave like cattle, we avoid the mass.
Where others tread on crowded meadows, we descend to greener, untrodden
fields. We improve, starting with ourselves. this counts for a lot of
things... our personalities, our music, our art... harmony in difference!
